Needless to say, there are many great health benefits to running including building strength, fitness, and mobility. It can also be a great opportunity to meet new people and develop social networks. This is especially true if you run as part of a club. However, like most sports though, it isn’t without its risks. The average incidence rate for running injuries is 37-56% for the average recreational runner. When compared with time spent running, the rate of injury varies from 2.5 to 12.1 injuries per 1000 hours of running.
Running Injuries and Training Impact
As you might expect, most injuries affect the lower limbs with knee injuries being the most common. 50-75% of running injuries are linked to the repetitive nature of running. This leads to a whopping 90% of injured runners ceasing training altogether!
