What is Physiotherapy?
In simple terms, Physiotherapy is a treatment that aims to improve joint and muscle function. It can help relieve pain and enhance movement. Physiotherapy is also used to restore function and fitness. This includes flexibility, strength, and coordination.
Physiotherapy is also shortened to Physio in the UK. In the US, it is known as Physical Therapy.
What is a Physiotherapist?
A physiotherapist is a registered health care professional. They specialise in maintaining and improving movement and mobility.
They use ‘hands-on’ techniques to relieve symptoms. This can include massage, mobilisations, and electrotherapy. They also give advice and prescribe exercise to support recovery.
Physiotherapists can help injuries affecting the muscles, joints, and nervous system.
Most physiotherapists have completed a three-year degree course. They can then register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Membership of the HCPC is a minimum requirement as Physiotherapy is a protected title.
A Chartered Physiotherapist has membership with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). This is not a requirement to practice. However, most employers expect it.
Physiotherapists at Capital Physio
We attract some of the best physiotherapists around. All our Physio’s are HCPC registered and CSP members. We also complete an enhanced DBS check for every one. In addition, our Physio’s gain extensive experience in private practice before they join our team.
Using Private Health Insurance for Physiotherapy
Capital Physio is recognised by all major private health insurers.
Health insurance customers must first provide a policy number and authorisation code along with any excess details or treatment limitations.
Some private medical insurance providers require a referral from a GP before they will cover physiotherapy. To make this a speedy process, we have partnered with DocTap who can provide same day GP referrals to all secondary care services. DocTap have nine London clinics and appointments cost from £29 to £54, inclusive of any referrals. Request a London referral with DocTap here.
Once sorted, an appointment at your preferred Capital Physio location can usually be offered within 24 hours and your insurer will be billed directly following your treatment.
Individuals without insurance cover can pay directly for physiotherapy sessions. This is becoming increasingly popular as insurers reduce cover and increase premiums.
Self-funders don’t need to worry about getting a referral or pre-authorisation for treatment. Just call and book.
Physiotherapy prices at Capital Physio are set regionally to ensure we remain competitive. Treatment prices can be found at the bottom of each clinic page.
